Charles Eames Aluminium Chair EA 119

The EA 119 is the bigger brother of the EA 117 model, which has a higher backrest. The model therefore displays a touch more dominance. Otherwise, all the functions of the high-back office chair remain the same. The Eames Alu Chair does not lose its flexibility, elegance and charm.

The Eames EA 119 is and remains an eye-catcher and enhances every office space. Even if furnishing styles in our offices have changed drastically in recent decades, the Eames design is a timeless companion for everyday life that gives its owner constant pleasure.

After three years of development, the first models of the so-called Leisure Group were created, which were originally intended as models for outdoor use. The model series of the Aluminium Group is probably one of the most famous office chair series in the world.

The die-cast aluminum frame (Attention! Low-cost suppliers do not use this high-quality material) of the Eames office chair is high-gloss chrome-plated as well as height-adjustable and equipped with a tilting mechanism. The five-star base is rotatable and equipped with universal castors suitable for parquet and carpeted floors.

Our model is manufactured and delivered in full leather. The back cover of the back is covered in the same material as the seat and back of the inner sides. The inside covers - also called ribs - are stitched and have the original dimensions.
(Attention. Cheap suppliers - especially from the Far East - omit these important details!)

Available in many variants
The office chair can be ordered in different leather variants and colors, in fabric or in mesh (vinyl).

Charles Eames (1907 - 1978). Designer and architect of American descent.
Charles and Ray Eames had an impressive influence on post-war design in the USA. Among the most famous designs are undoubtedly the office and conference chairs of the Aluminium Group (EA 117, EA 119, EA 219, EA 108, EA 208), stools (EA 125, EA 225) and lounge chairs (EA 124, EA 224).

History of origin
By omitting the usual seat shells, Charles and Ray Eames entered new territory in 1958 and immediately wrote design history. Aluminum crossbars on the back and under the seat connected the chair's two polished metal side frames. The continuous upholstery was stretched over the frame and tightly rolled over aluminum rods at the top and bottom. The individual ribs of the seat and back upholstery had a spacing of 47 mm. The Aluminum Group included chairs with high and low backs, with or without arms, all of which had a cast aluminum swivel base. Over a decade later, the Eames office developed the Soft Pad Group which evolved from the Aluminium Group from a design perspective.

Suitable for indoor and outdoor use
The target for the Aluminium Group was to create a chair that was suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. At the same time, the use of material was to be kept to a minimum and the volume was also to be minimized. After a development period of three years, the first prototypes of the "Leisure Group" were created in 1958.

Principle of construction
The design principle follows the formation of a load-bearing textile seat shell stretched between two aluminum profiles. Horizontal seams provide stiffening of the fabric and prevent the shell from "sitting through". At the bottom and top of the shell, a roll-up of the fabric provides an elegant yet comfortable edge and creates a handsome finish.

Visually light and versatile
The seat cover consists of five layers of different materials and ensures that a very high level of seating comfort is achieved despite minimal padding thickness. The tension construction is visible through the use of so-called clasps in the back and seat area, giving the chair an additional visual lightness.

Through the consistent application of the construction principle and the use of identical parts, different variants have been created over time: Office and conference chairs (EA 117, 119, 219, 108, 208), stools (EA 125, EA 225), lounge chairs (EA 124, EA 224).

Vinyl, fabric, leather and mesh (from 1984) were used as upholstery. The variant with sewn-on, additional upholstery pockets realized from 1969 is available under the name "Softpad", initially in fabric and leather variants, now only in leather.
